Moyna Name Meaning and History

It originates from the Gaelic O’ Muimhneachain, which literally translates as ‘The male descendant of the Munsterman’.  It is a completely different name from Monaghan, which originated as the word ‘Monk’.

Monahan Name Meaning Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Manacháin ‘descendant of Manachán’, a personal name representing a diminutive of manach ‘monk’. The Gaelic name is sometimes interpreted as if it were Ó Muineacháin ‘descendant of the little shrubbery’, and is sometimes translated as Thornton. Compared to the place name Monaghan.

Munsterman Name Meaning

German (Munstermann, Münstermann) and Dutch: variant of Munster.
