We don’t often post about the modern world, but this week the country that we live in suffered two terrorist attacks against our military, against our people.  In Quebec, two soldiers were targeted and one was killed.  At one of the most sacred and hallowed places – The Ottawa Cenotaph that stands as a memorial to our War dead – A soldier’s life was taken.
Heroes  stepped forward when Margaret Lerhe, Barbara Winters and the two other Honour Guard soldiers tried to give their own breath to save the life that was threatened.  A hero stepped forward when Sergeant-at-arms Kevin Vickers ended the reign of terror by stopping the terrorist at Parliament Hill.

This is a very difficult time for all of us.  Our children don’t understand the fear of war, and the violence that can be claimed as common in other places does not exist here.  Canada is as it has been for generations: the true north, strong and free.  We argue about hockey and politics, we glory in the freedom of choice and speech and religion.  In an ever changing world, this is our haven.  Our Ancestors came from France, from China, from Ireland, Scotland and beyond to give us this life.

Our political leaders will rally, our soldiers and police forces will stand strong.  As a Nation, we have stood through two world wars and have proven this strength since then in peace keeping endeavours.  We are 35 million people of diversity and pride now.  We will not bend nor break in the face of terror or threat.
