Society seems to have labels for us all, and women have long suffered the worst as far as stereotypes and pigeon holes that suggest who and what we are. The Bitch, the Whore, the Prude, the Saint. Stepping out of these labels is a difficult social accomplishment, but what is even harder is changing your personal mindset to ignore these social standards.
It's hard to get over feeling like a bitch when you're just demanding time for yourself. It's hard to find sexual empowerment when you're worried about coming across as a slut. Social labels and concepts are ingrained in us from birth, and due to 2000 years of a patriarchal society, are going to take more than a 'girl power' stretch in the late '90s to overcome.
A concept that I find works for me, as far as nurturing my inner self, is to never ask more of yourself than you would of your children or what you love. We nurture our babies. Cater to them... We do just about anything and everything to secure their welfare, encourage their growth and nurture their inner spirit. Why wouldn't we do the same for ourselves?
When I find myself thinking negatively about myself, I have to stop, re-evaluate the situation, and then continue again with an improved outlook. This section is all about improving your outlook on the feminine and the divine. Two things which are constantly connected. Once you've established who you are, and the beauty within that, then you are capable of connecting with others outside of yourself.
