The Green Gua
The Green Gua is the living center of our Family lives. Here, the flow
of Chi is connected to family communication, interaction and success. We
also see how our family is affected on a larger scale, through our community, or
our connection with mankind.
Through proper placement and the encouragement of growth within our family Gua,
we can strengthen ourselves as family units, we can reach out to our communities
and aid in their survival and growth to a new and better future. Family is
about history, about our ancestors, and about our children, and their future.
Creating a Family Wall
Within your Green Gua space, you should allow for a focal point based in your
family traditions and memories. This specific idea was one I used within
the designs for my own house.
Step One:
Choose an open wall within your Green Gua, one that is devoid of most
decorations and distractions. With the help of your family, select images
that you feel represent your family and what you want to be remembered.
Focus on events that are happy, ancestors who have passed on, or photos of
momentous occasions. Now for me, this was a very difficult process,
because I like posed pictures verses my husband who enjoys natural photos.
We met a compromise by having two different styled walls, but such measures
can't always be met when you're dealing in smaller spaces! A nice collage
of both posed and profession photos can be special to those that live with you.
Make something full, but not cluttered. It's a good idea that you choose
each photograph with purpose, with a memory and emotion in mind. Each
photograph should have a selected space and intention.
Step Two:
Look for an area that won't be easily disturbed, like a stair case wall, or
somewhere smaller hands can't touch glass frames. On the same token, maybe
place some hardy photos lower for little ones to be able to touch.
Your frames are an important part of your wall, because they surround your
photos with a style, colour and feeling. In the Green Gua you want vibrant
colours, reds and golds are always indicative of happiness and joy, mixed with
greens to inspire growth, the possibilities are endless! Count your
selected photos before you head off to the frame store. If you can't find
anything you really want for frames, consider making your own. Ikea sells
plain wooden frames, but painting them could be a great family experience.
Also consider just matting your photos and placing them in 'invisible' glass
frames. It could give your Family Wall a stylish look that makes the focus
all about you.
Make this experience personal and all about your family, nothing could inspire
your family to thrive more than time shared together.
Green Gua Space Improvement Tips:
Consider having the area of the Green Gua
painted in a shade of green like sage, which promotes harmony and tranquility.
In a large majority of modern housing the Kitchen falls within the Green Gua, so
adding small green accents can only improve your Chi. Consider green
placemats, a small rug or napkins.
Thriving green plants bring positive Chi to every home. Look for plants with soft leaves that have soft shapes, possibly even variegated leaf colours. Encouraging comfort and welcoming energy in this area will enable your family to share time and thoughts together.
